As May flowers burst into bloom and the school year winds down, arts advocates in Sherman have launched a new way to share information about the vibrant creative scene in the Cultural District. "Cultural Conversations" rolled out in late April at 903 Brewers with a gathering of arts nonprofits, Main Street, Sherman Chamber, Austin College, and downtown businesses.
The group is making connections to partner on upcoming events and provide a richer, more diverse community arts experience. "Cultural Conversations" will be held at least twice per year, and all friends of the arts - students, the community, and arts/cultural groups - are invited to participate. Meetings will be posted on social media, so keep an eye out for future announcements.
Meanwhile, May and June feature a feast of activity! Check the Arts Calendar for more on these upcoming events:
The first-ever Symphony in the Park (with the Sherman Symphony playing in Lucy Kidd-Key Park, May 23) will herald the official launch of 2019's Hot Summer Nights season, followed by 7 more Thursday nights of headliner bands.
Sherman Community Players brings West Side Story to life on the Kidd-Key Auditorium stage the weekends of June 14-16 and 21-23.
Juneteenth will be commemorated with a community festival on the Municipal Grounds, June 15, led by the Neighborhood Recreation Committee.
The Sherman Focalpoint Project will have a booth at June 6th's Hot Summer Nights for the community to share and discuss photographs of Sherman life.
And, coming next on the blog ... a foodie tour of Downtown/Cultural District restaurants. For starters, don't miss the Mother's Day Sunday Brunch menu at Fulbelli's and Old Iron Post. Much more to come!
