You may have seen our Vision for Public Art, produced last fall by community volunteers and our consultants from the Arts Council of Fort Worth (supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts).
Since then, our Cultural District Advisory Council has put together a plan to kick-start the creation of more murals in our historic downtown. In mid-June, we submitted a grant request to the Texas Commission on the Arts that could help fund a commemorative mural in honor of the upcoming 40th anniversary Sherman Arts Festival on September 18, 2021. This project will be extra-fun for Arts Fest visitors, because YOU will have a chance to paint the mural on Arts Fest Day! Creating the new mural will offer an exciting new arts experience for all.
And on July 20, we're holding a Taco Tuesday fundraiser to launch this summer's Sher-Town Taco Tour and support our "Celebrate the Arts" mural project. The taco extravaganza will feature your choice of 8 half-taco samples from our downtown taquerias and restaurants per $25 ticket. Tickets go on sale July 1.
P.S. We've already had a great summer with SCP's production of Mamma Mia playing through June 27 at the Nation Theatre at Austin College, free Hot Summer Nights concerts every Thursday on the municipal lawn, Craft Beer Festival and Fiddling Competition, and Saturday Farmers Market. Don't miss Cinderella in mid-July at Honey McGee Playhouse (Theatricks' 35th anniversary year!) and summer fun with Dino Days at the Sherman Museum! Details on all these events and more can be found on our calendar.
